About The Author

Hakim Ahmad Shuja a renowned Urdu essayist, playwright, short story writer, and poet, Hakim Ahmad Shuja was born on November 4, 1896. After completing his matriculation from Lahore, he pursued his FA from Aligarh College, then completed his BA from Meerut College, and eventually earned a Master’s degree. He chose a career in the field of education.

In 1920, he became associated with the Punjab Assembly and eventually rose to the position of Secretary of the Assembly. From 1948 to 1969, he also served as the Secretary of the Majlis-e-Zaban-e-Daftari (Official Language Committee). Under his guidance, thousands of English terms were translated into Urdu.

Hakim Ahmad Shuja is considered among the leading Urdu dramatists. He also wrote many short stories, authored a novel, and wrote screenplays for several films. He launched a literary magazine titled "Hazaar Dastaan" and a children's magazine called "Noonhal".

His autobiography is titled "Khoon Baha", and he also wrote a literary and cultural history of Lahore's Bhati Gate area titled "Lahore ka Chelsea". He was also working on a Tafseer (interpretation) of the Holy Quran titled "Afsah al-Bayan", but unfortunately, he could only complete the exegesis of the first five Paras (sections).

Hakim Ahmad Shuja passed away on January 4, 1969, in Lahore and was laid to rest in Miani Sahib Cemetery.
