Renowned Urdu poets Zia Jalandhari was born on 2nd Feb 1923 at Jalandhar. His family moved to Lahore where he did his masters in English Literature from Govt College. For some years or so, he worked as an English lecturer for Islamia college Lahore. Zia Jalandhri started his writing career from All India Radio. After doing CSS he joined the radio in 1948. He also served as Managing Director of state television during late General Zia ul Haq era. He authored many books included poetry and prose. He was a pioneering member of Halqa-e-Arbab-e-Zauq, and was honoured with several awards including Pakistan’s one of the highest civilian awards ‘The pride of performance’ (2006) for his unforgettable contribution to Urdu literature including a National Literary Award by the PAL for “Dam-e-Subh”. Jalandhari Sb passed away on March 13, 2013 at the age of 89 in Islamabad.
