Sarshar Siddiqui was a progressive writer and poet born in the Kanpur of pre-independence India. His first ghazal was published in 1944 in Nigar, a literary journal published in Lucknow. His first four books of poetry were based on partition and migration; Irtiqa, Pathar ki Lakeer, Abjad and Baynaam. His last book of poetry was titled Khizaan ki Aakhri Shaam.
