hassan hyderabad (august 1888) was published under the editorship of maulvi syed fakhrullah. it featured historical, scholarly, literary, linguistic, ethical, political, scientific, and religious articles. these articles were not only informative but also highly intellectual and literary. dr. akbar haidari kashmiri wrote: "among urdu magazines, hassan had the unique distinction of awarding one ashrafi (gold coin) as a reward to its best writers." dr. muhammad anwaruddin compiled a list of the award-winning articles in his book. according to him, the articles that received the ashrafi as a reward included: ahram-e-misr (pyramids of egypt) by maulvi muhammad abu al-hasan kutub khana hai islami (islamic libraries) by muhammad shibli nomani sikandar-e-azam ki halat-e-zindagi par ek muhqiqana nazar (a research-oriented look at the life of alexander the great) by mujeeb ahmad tamanna’i sultan muhammad khan sani aur qustuntuniya ki fateh (sultan mehmed ii and the conquest of constantinople) by abdul haleem sharar tazkara-e-taimur (chronicle of timur) by muhammad shafi arbon ki civilization ki tareekh (history of arab civilization) by maulvi muhammad yousuf ali khan qizilbash these writings were recognized for their scholarly depth and literary excellence.
