About The Author

Shahid Anwar, a renowned poet of Dabistan-e-Delhi (Delhi Poetry School), was born on 18th July 1965 in Walled City (Old City of Delhi). From an early age, he used to attend the Urdu Poetry Events (Mushairas) with his late father and Maternal Uncle and his love for Urdu Poetry blossomed. He started writing Ghazals and composing couplets. He attended and recited first Mushaira in 1982 and since then his journey in Urdu poetry events started and is still going on. Shahid Anwar got his education in History from Zakir Husain College, Delhi University. In 1987 he went to Saudi Arabia to shape his professional career, there, he further established himself as a poet in the Mushaira’s organized by Consulate General of India, Jeddah – Saudi Arabia and other reputed organizations.

In 1999 he returned to INDIA and continued his poetic journey in various reputed poetry events organized by Government and non-Government Organizations. He also got published in various reputed Indo-Pak Urdu journals.

Shahid Anwar’s beautiful ghazals sung in his melodious voice directly touches the heart of his listeners. Apart from ghazals Shahid Anwar has also established himself in Nazm Nigaari. His famous nazm “MARZI” has made a huge popularity for him in the field of Nazms. Apart from Nazm, Geet and Nasr, Shahid Anwar is also a well-known poet in the field of Doha nigaari.

Shahid Anwar’s first Urdu poetry collection “ISHARAT” when published has not only gained literary success but has also found its place in the hearts as well as libraries of Urdu poetry critics.
