Dr. Yasin Aatir (Full Name: Muhammad Yasin Sheikh, MD) is a medical graduate from Dow Medical College Karachi. He was born in Lahore and moved to the United States of America in 1989. Dr. Yasin Aatir completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Indiana University and his fellowship training at the University of Louisville in Kentucky and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School in Boston. Initially, he served as Medical Director for Liver transplantation at the University of California Irvine (UCI) Medical Center. Subsequently, he was appointed Division Chief of Gastroenterology at the University of California San Francisco- Fresno Medical Education Program. He established a new Fellowship Training Program in Gastroenterology and served as both Head of Department and Program Director for several years. After retiring as a professor of medicine, he is now president of a private research center and group practice.
Dr. Yasin Aatir is listed as one of the best Gastroenterologists in the United States by a consumer report. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP), American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), and the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA). He is a recipient of the “Laureate Award 2012” from the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Yasin Aatir started writing poetry in his early college life. He participated in many mushaera sessions and bait bazi competitions at Dow Medical College Karachi. He received the first prize in Karachi Inter-Collegiate Ghazal Competition in 1980. He had enjoyed the company of many renowned poets, such as John Ailia, Ahmed Faraz, Parveen Shakir, Mohsin Bhopali, Obaidullah Aleem, Saleem Kausar and Jamal Ahsani. He participated in several local and international Mushaera held over time in various cities in the United States.
Dr. Yasin Aatir has published two books of Urdu Ghazals- “Ishq Waseelah” and “Ishq Riyazat.” He is followed by over 2.28 million fans on Facebook.
