the monthly magazine "kitab," lucknow (december 1962) was a representative of the progressive writers' movement. the editor's name was published as syed jameel ahmed, while the advisory board included notable personalities such as syed ehtesham hussain, hayatullah ansari, and abid suhail. its editorial was particularly eye-opening and thought-provoking. the magazine featured all genres of literature, along with a column titled "talkh, tursh, aur sheereen" (bitter, sour, and sweet). some of its special editions introduced urdu language and literature to new perspectives. among them, the "nai hindi kahani number" (new hindi story edition) and the "marathi kahani number" (marathi story edition) were particularly noteworthy. the marathi story edition was published in june 1968, compiled by noor parkar. under the "essays" section, notable works included: "the evolution of marathi literature" by abdul sattar dalvi "changing literary trends in marathi" by professor keshav vishram "forms of marathi drama" by kumari vijaya salvi the "short story" section featured works by renowned marathi writers such as diwakar krishna, yashwant gopal joshi, v. c. khandekar, chidarke, gangadhar gadgil, arvind gokhale, vijay tendulkar, j. e. kulkarni, venkatesh, baburao gal, and hamid dalwai.
