Asna Badr was born on January 26, 1971, in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, India. She completed her early education in Hamirpur and did her M.A. in Urdu from Kanpur University, where she topped her class. She is a professional teacher living in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, teaching Urdu at Delhi Public School.
Her poetry collection, "Manzar Nama", was published in 2014 and was widely appreciated. Asna’s poetry reflects a unique cultural and feminine perspective in today’s discussions on feminism. Her work has been published in literary magazines in India and Pakistan for many years. Although some of her ghazals can be found in older magazines, she is mostly known for her Nazms. She writes both structured and free verse poetry with ease and sometimes translates English poems into Urdu.
Her Nazms are known for their melody, flow, and poetic truth. She does not participate in mushairas but is very active and popular on Facebook. Her nazm "Woh Kaisi Auratein Thin" is especially famous and has become her signature work.
