the journal ma’asir patna, first published in november 1940, was an important scholarly and literary magazine. it was associated with dr. azamuddin ahmed, professor abdul mannan bedar, and professor kalimuddin ahmed, who contributed to its editorial management. apart from publishing research articles and critical essays, ma’asir patna also introduced previously unpublished manuscripts. the journal covered a wide range of subjects, including: philosophy linguistics sociology history education sufism biographies translations criticism science geography fiction essays poetry many significant articles related to the urdu language were published in ma’asir, including: "urdu script and its cultural links" by mohammad hasan "urdu-hindi languages" by siddiq hasan askari "artificial hindi" by andalib shadani "different names of our language" by sant kumar sinha "judicial language in 1939" by khadimuddin ahmed the journal also featured articles on arabic and persian literature, such as: "the contributions of europeans to arabic studies" by siddiq ahmed "arabic in bihar and its influence" by masood alam nadvi "hadith of isa ibn hisham" by siddiq ahmed there were also articles on unknown poets, including one by siddiq hasan askari, titled "ujagar chand ulfat". scientific articles were also a part of ma’asir, with notable pieces such as: "a study of the evolution of the art of flight" by raza ahmed jafri "meteors and stones" by h.m. aslam dr. noor islam alig compiled an annotated index of ma’asir, which was published by the khuda bakhsh library, patna, in 2002. writing about the journal’s contents, he remarked: "the articles published in ma’asir were of the highest quality. very few urdu journals could match its literary and scholarly standards."
