Shafeeq Ahmad was born in Calcutta on 6 July 1949. In 1950, he moved with his parents to Dhaka. He completed his B.A B.Ed in 1970. He had been a journalist since his student days. This helped him later in his career when he worked as a journalist in the daily newspapers of Dhaka, such as, Paasbaan, Hamari Aawaz and Watan. After the partition Pakistan and Bangladesh, he moved to Karachi. He completed his M.A from Karachi University. There he continued to be associated with journalism and teaching. He has also been a member of Jam-e-Noor and Pakistani Adab societies. He writes under the pen name, Shafeeq. In addition to being a poet, he is a short story writer and critic as well. Pas-e-Lafz-e-Aaina, Idraak and Jadeediyat Se Ma Baad-e-Jadidiyat Tak are the collections of his works. For Idraak, he was awarded Firaq Gorakhpuri Aala Adab award by the Sahityakar Sansad Samastipur of Bihar.
