About The Author

Bawan Behari Lal Mathur Sahab was born at Phatak Andar, Daryabad, Distt. Barabanki, U.P. He belonged to a reputed Kayasth family. He lost his parents in his childhood and was grown up by his grandparents. He did his basic education at home and at Lucknow and later got secondary Education from Gonda ( U.P. ) at his maternal uncle’s place. He did his High School in the first Division with distinction in Persian language. After secondary education, he got employment in Irrigation Dep’t. Of U.P. and worked as Ziledar in Canal division till his retirement in 1952.He had a poetic inclination and love for Urdu and Persian poetry. He was very much influenced with poetic works of Brij Narain ‘Chakbast’ the composer of Ramayan in Urdu. He has composed long poems in ‘Band’ form in persianized Urdu on various topics of Ramayan and Shrimadbhagwat. Unfortunately, his compositions could not be published during his lifetime except for two i.e. Krishna Janam and Shiv Darshan which were published in 1958 in Devnagri script.He has composed long poems on Ram Janam,Ram Banbas, Ram Shabri Milan, Jange Lanka, Sudama Charitra, Gajendra Moksh etc.  and some Gazals. In 1957 He took Sanyas, changed his name as Swami Ram Das and spent the rest of his life in Bhagwad bhajan and the study of religious scriptures. He died on 7th Nov. 1969.
