in january 1926, suhail was launched from aligarh. it was a quarterly academic journal published by anjuman urdu-e-mu’alla, affiliated with muslim university, aligarh. professor rasheed ahmad siddiqui (alig) served as its editor. one notable aspect of suhail’s objectives was the principle that it should not become a means of mere appeasement for poets and prose writers. this stands in contrast to the approach of many contemporary magazines, which tend to prioritize appeasement, leading to a general complaint about the decline in quality literary works. suhail was distinct in this regard, as its editorial leadership under professor rasheed ahmad siddiqui was deeply insightful, with a profound understanding of literature and various fields of knowledge. as a result, only valuable and substantive articles were published in suhail.
