خلیل جبران جن کا اصل نام: جبران خلیل جبران بن میکائیل بن سعد ہے۔ جو لبنانی نژاد امریکی فنکار، شاعر اور مصنف تھے۔ خلیل جبران جدید لبنان کے شہر بشاری میں پیدا ہوئے جو ان کے زمانے میں سلطنت عثمانیہ میں شامل تھا۔ وہ نوجوانی میں اپنے خاندان کے ہمراہ امریکہ ہجرت کر گئے اور وہاں فنون لطیفہ کی تعلیم کے بعد اپنا ادبی سفر شروع کیا۔ جبران اعلی درجے کا ادیب، بہترین شاعر، اور عمدہ آرٹسٹ تھے خلیل جبران کی لکھی ہوئی یہ کتاب 26 نثری نظموں پر مشتمل ہے۔ یہ کتاب 1923 میں منظر عام پر آئی تھی۔ یہ خلیل جبران کی سب سے مشہور کتاب ہے جس کا تقریبا سو زبانوں میں ترجمہ ہو چکا ہے۔ تاریخ کی سب سےزیادہ ترجمہ شدہ کتاب میں سے ایک ہے۔ خلیل جبران اپنی کتاب the prophet کی وجہ سے عالمی طور پر مشہور ہوئے۔ یہ انگریزی زبان میں لکھی گئی تھی۔ یہ فلسفیانہ مضامین کا ایک مجموعہ تھا، گو اس پر کڑی تنقید کی گئی مگر پھر بھی یہ کتاب نہایت مشہور گردانی گئی، بعد ازاں 60ء کی دہائی میں یہ سب سے زیادہ پڑھی جانے والی شاعری کی کتاب بن گئی۔ یہ اس دور کی سب سے زیادہ بکنے والی کتاب کا اعزاز بھی رکھتی ہے۔ زیر نطر اسی کا منظوم اردو ترجمہ ہے، جس کو ظہیر عباس نے انجام دیا ہے۔
