اردو تنقید کا باقاعدہ اور منظم آغاز حالی کی مقدمہ شعر و شاعری سے ہوا، حالانکہ کئی لوگ اس سے اتفاق نہیں رکھتے اور محمد حسین آزاد کی آب حیات کو اس کا کریڈٹ دیتے ہیں۔ یہ کتاب کچھ ایسے موضوعات سے معاملہ کرتی ہے جس میں مصنف نے اردو تنقید کا منزل بمنزل جائزہ لیا ہے۔ کتاب موٹے طور چھ ابواب میں منقسم ہے جس میں اردو کے قدیم انداز تنقید پر ایک نظر جس میں شعرا کے تذکرے، استادی و شاگردی کے سلسلے اور اساتذہ کی اصلاحات جیسے موضوعات کو زیر بحث لایا گیا ہے۔ جدید اردو تنقید کے حوالے سے آزاد، حالی اور شبلی کی نمایاں تصانیف کا جائزہ شامل ہے۔ شبلی اور سبک ہندی کے ساتھ ساتھ نیچرل شاعری اور مضمون کی معجزہ آفرینی کو بھی شامل کیا گیا ہے۔ نیچرل شاعری کے تحت کاشف الحقائق کو بھی زیر بحث لایا گیا ہے۔

Dr. Aziz Ibnul Hassan is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Language and Literature at the International Islamic University, Islamabad. He completed his early education at Government High School Sanghar, Sindh, and pursued higher studies at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro. He has contributed scholarly articles to publications such as "Bunyad," discussing topics like Pascal's concepts of God, human misery, and existentialist themes. 
Dr. Hassan has also delivered lectures on subjects like "Islamic Tradition & Modernity," reflecting his engagement with contemporary intellectual discourse. 
In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Hassan has participated in literary and cultural conferences, such as the Sahiwal Literary and Cultural Conference organized by the Punjab Council of the Arts, Sahiwal Division.
