zill-us-sultan monthly began publishing under the patronage of sultan jahan begum and the editorship of muhammad amin zuberi. on its cover page, it was described as "a monthly magazine of the intellectual interests of indian women." according to the objectives and regulations of the magazine, it was stated, "the purpose of this magazine is to promote education and provide useful and practical information for indian women." a study of the issues of zil-e-sultan available on rekhta shows that the magazine indeed published informative articles beneficial for women and ladies. the writings of fatima sughra bint ahmad hasan, zahra sultan, m b sahiba lakhnavi, mrs. aslam, aaliya khatoon, akhtar dulhan, and b begum sahiba were featured in the magazine. from the list of articles, it is evident that the magazine was dedicated to the education and social development of women. topics such as the reform and development of muslim women, girls' education in europe, the importance of female education, english education for women, the sentiments of muslim women, women of sultan muhammad of uzbekistan, women in the eyes of ibn rushd, and other significant subjects were covered. there was also a column titled aalam-e-niswaan .
