    bhuul jaanā thā to phir apnā banāyā kyuuñ thā

    tum ne ulfat yaqīñ mujh ko dilāyā kyuuñ thā

    ek bhaTke hue raahī ko sahārā de kar

    jhūTī manzil nishāñ tum ne dikhāyā kyuuñ thā

    ḳhud tūfān uThānā thā mohabbat meñ agar

    Dūbne se mirī kashtī ko bachāyā kyuuñ thā

    jis ta.abīr ab ashkoñ ke sivā kuchh bhī nahīñ

    ḳhvāb aisā merī āñkhoñ ko dikhāyā kyuuñ thā

    apne anjām pe ab kyuuñ ho pashemān 'sabā'

    ek bedard se dil tum ne lagāyā kyuuñ thā

    bhul jaana tha to phir apna banaya kyun tha

    tum ne ulfat ka yaqin mujh ko dilaya kyun tha

    ek bhaTke hue rahi ko sahaara de kar

    jhuTi manzil ka nishan tum ne dikhaya kyun tha

    KHud hi tufan uThana tha mohabbat mein agar

    Dubne se meri kashti ko bachaya kyun tha

    jis ki tabir ab ashkon ke siwa kuchh bhi nahin

    KHwab aisa meri aankhon ko dikhaya kyun tha

    apne anjam pe ab kyun ho pasheman 'saba'

    ek bedard se dil tum ne lagaya kyun tha
