    kahtā murġh-e-dil se vo hāl-e-myān-e-ḳhat

    sabza jo daam ho to use daana kyā kare

    bebas kiyā hai mujh ko sar-e-zulf-e-yār ne

    zanjīr paañv meñ ho to dīvāna kyā kare

    jaadū hai aañkh surma na kyūñ-kar rahe ḳhamosh

    sarkash zulf kāñdhe na de shāna kyā kare

    dil ko na daaġh dījiye bose chaaT par

    jo bechtā na hove vo bai.āna kyā kare
