    bhuul jaate haiñ taqaddus ke hasīñ pal kitne

    log jazbāt meñ ho jaate haiñ pāgal kitne

    roz ḳhushbū ke muqaddar meñ rahī ḳhud-sozī

    apnī aag meñ jalte rahe sandal kitne

    sabz mausam na yahāñ phir se palaT kar aayā

    ho ga.e zard mire gaañv ke pīpal kitne

    ḳhud-kushī qatl-e-anā tark-e-tamannā bairāg

    zindagī tere nazar aane lage hal kitne

    bārisheñ hotī haiñ jis vaqt bharī āñkhoñ

    raakh ho jaate haiñ jalte hue āñchal kitne

    har qadam koī darinda koī ḳhuñḳhār uqaab

    shahr god meñ ābād haiñ jañgal kitne

    be-ruḳhī us rulā.egī lahū kyā 'shabnam'

    zaḳhm khāte rahe ham to musalsal kitne

    bhul jate hain taqaddus ke hasin pal kitne

    log jazbaat mein ho jate hain pagal kitne

    roz KHushbu ke muqaddar mein rahi KHud-sozi

    apni hi aag mein jalte rahe sandal kitne

    sabz mausam na yahan phir se palaT kar aaya

    ho gae zard mere ganw ke pipal kitne

    KHud-kushi qatl-e-ana tark-e-tamanna bairag

    zindagi tere nazar aane lage hal kitne

    barishen hoti hain jis waqt bhari aankhon ki

    rakh ho jate hain jalte hue aanchal kitne

    har qadam koi darinda koi KHunKHar uqab

    shahr ki god mein aabaad hain jangal kitne

    be-ruKHi us ki rulaegi lahu kya 'shabnam'

    zaKHm khate hi rahe hum to musalsal kitne
