ek ik saañs meñ sadiyoñ safar kāTte haiñ

ḳhauf ke shahr meñ rahte haiñ so Dar kāTte haiñ

pahle bhar lete haiñ kuchh rañg tumhāre us meñ

aur phir ham usī tasvīr sar kāTte haiñ

ḳhvāb muTThī meñ liye phirte haiñ sahrā sahrā

ham vahī log haiñ jo dhuup ke par kāTte haiñ

sauñp kar us ko tire dard ke saare mausam

phir usī lamhe ko ham zindagī-bhar kāTte haiñ

nahīñ hai to tire shahr tasvīr meñ ham

saare vīrāne banā dete haiñ ghar kāTte haiñ

us yādoñ ke parindoñ ko uḌā kar 'az.har'

dil se ab dard ik ek shajar kāTte haiñ

ek ek sans mein sadiyon ka safar kaTte hain

KHauf ke shahr mein rahte hain so Dar kaTte hain

pahle bhar lete hain kuchh rang tumhaare us mein

aur phir hum usi taswir ka sar kaTte hain

KHwab muTThi mein liye phirte hain sahra sahra

hum wahi log hain jo dhup ke par kaTte hain

saunp kar us ko tere dard ke sare mausam

phir usi lamhe ko hum zindagi-bhar kaTte hain

tu nahin hai to tere shahr ki taswir mein hum

sare virane bana dete hain ghar kaTte hain

us ki yaadon ke parindon ko uDa kar 'azhar'

dil se ab dard ka ek ek shajar kaTte hain
