The ghazal was written in 1971 after the Fall of Dhaka, reflecting Turabi’s deep emotional response to the tragic event. After hearing the news while at his office, he poured his feelings into this heartfelt composition. The lyrics convey the profound grief over the separation of East Pakistan, resonating with the sentiments of ordinary Pakistanis mourning for East Pakistanis. Recognized as one of the most poignant expressions of that sorrow, the ghazal has been performed by various artists over the years. It also gained prominence when featured in the Pakistani drama “Humsafar”, starring Fawad Khan.
