na jhukāo tum nigāheñ kahīñ raat Dhal na jaa.e

mirā jaam chhūne vaale tirā haath jal na jaa.e

abhī raat kuchh hai baaqī na uThā naqāb saaqī
tirā rind girte girte kahīñ phir sambhal na jaa.e

mirī zindagī ke mālik mire dil pe haath rakhnā
tire aane kī ḳhushī meñ mirā dam nikal na jaa.e
place your hand upon my heart, o master of my life
lest the joy of your approach becomes the end of me
mujhe phūñkne se pahle mirā dil nikāl lenā
ye kisī kī hai amānat mire saath jal na jaa.e
please remove my heart before i am consigned to flames
