maqdur nahin hum ko fart-e-dam-e-jaulan par
maqdūr nahīñ ham ko fart-e-dam-e-jaulāñ par
kar deñge nichhāvar jaañ ham 'ishva-e-sāmāñ par
be-raunaqī dekhūñ to hotā hai gumāñ mujh ko
ik dasht-e-huvaidā kā is ḳhāna-e-vīrāñ par
betāb nigāhoñ meñ baaqī na rahī jab taab
kyā vaqt 'ajab aayā is dīda-e-hairāñ par
jo tū ne lagāyā thā us zaḳhm-e-jigar kā hī
hotā hai gumāñ ham ko ab har gul-e-ḳhandāñ par
jalnā hī muqaddar ho to farq nahīñ paḌtā
ho mahfil-e-ḳhūbāñ meñ yā gor-e-ġharībāñ par
lāzim hai siyah-mastī kulfat ke bhulāne ko
par jaam uThānā hai mushkil tan-e-āsāñ par
zinhār nahīñ rusvā ulfat ko karegā ye
itnā to bharosā hai ham ko ġham-e-jānāñ par
iifā na huā pahle vo ab bhī nahīñ hogā
aa.egā yaqīñ kyūñkar ab vā’da-o-paimāñ par
puujā but-e-rā'nā ko itnā ki hue kāfir
ham mar miTe kuchh aise us ġhārat-e-īmāñ par
vo bāb-e-rasā.ī tak pahuñchā hī nahīñ 'sālik'
thā naaz tumheñ itnā jis nāla-e-sozāñ par

kya waqt 'ajab aaya is dida-e-hairan par
jo tu ne lagaya tha us zaKHm-e-jigar ka hi
hota hai guman hum ko ab har gul-e-KHandan par
jalna hi muqaddar ho to farq nahin paDta
ho mahfil-e-KHuban mein ya gor-e-ghariban par
lazim hai siyah-masti kulfat ke bhulane ko
par jam uThana hai mushkil tan-e-asan par
zinhaar nahin ruswa ulfat ko karega ye
itna to bharosa hai hum ko gham-e-jaanan par
ifa na hua pahle wo ab bhi nahin hoga
aaega yaqin kyunkar ab wa’da-o-paiman par
puja but-e-ra'na ko itna ki hue kafir
hum mar miTe kuchh aise us ghaarat-e-iman par
wo bab-e-rasai tak pahuncha hi nahin 'salik'
tha naz tumhein itna jis nala-e-sozan par
