kuchh apnī bhī majbūrī thī kuchh us kī bhī zarūrat thī
sāthī aur kisī kā merā ham-zauq-o-ham-rang-esuḳhan
us kī tanhā.ī ko shāyad kuchh merī bhī zarūrat thī
pahlī nazar ne kitnī hairat se us shakl ko dekhā thā
merī soch kī tasvīroñ se miltī-jultī mūrat thī
zard havā kā andhā jhoñkā naqsh miTā kar guzar gayā
ret pe ab bikhre harfoñ kī ik be-chehra sūrat thī
jis kī bāteñ shahd se mīThī jis ke haath meñ surḳh gulāb
us kī soch meñ zahr bharā thā us ke dil meñ kudūrat thī
ye kis ke e.azāz meñ 'akram' maqtal meñ hai jashn bapā
aaj salīboñ kī is nagrī meñ ye kis kī sūrat thī
