añdherā har taraf chhāyā huā hai
añdherā hī azal hai aur añdherā hī abad kī jot hai shāyad
isī tārīk chādar kī tahoñ meñ
adam ke ḳhvāb se tārīḳh jaagī
isī tārīk chādar meñ tamaddun muskurāyā khilkhilāyā jagmagāyā
yahī tārīk chādar ḳhāvar-e-tahzīb kā mashriq banī āḳhir
yahī tārīk chādar oḌh kar haivāniyat ne ruup dhāran kar liye lākhoñ
isī tārīk chādar meñ simaT kar gum huī hastī
yahī mashriq yahī maġhrib
añdherā hī azal hai aur añdherā hī abad kī jot hai shāyad
añdhere kī isī dīvār-e-chīñ ko
kabhī 'suqrāt' kī hikmat ne Dhāyā
kabhī iisā ke ḳhūn-e-garm-o-tāza ne kiyā rangīñ
kabhī gautam kī mausīqī ke sāyoñ ne ise gherā
kabhī zarb-e-mohammad ne kiyā TukḌe
husain ibn-e-alī ke ḳhūn-e-nāhaq ke thapeḌoñ se kabhī kāñpī kabhī larzī
fazā meñ ek chingārī sī taḌpī
aur us ke baad us ke baad
chhā.ī phir vahī manhūs tārīkī vahī manhūs tārīkī
añdherā hī azal hai aur añdherā hī abad kī jot hai shāyad
añdhere kī jabīn-e-āhanī se
ye kaisī jot phūTī muskurā.ī jagmagā.ī
ye kis kī muskurāhaT se banī insāniyat gulshan
ye kis ne hind kī tārīk duniyā ko kiyā raushan
dukhī duniyā sitāroñ se banī dul.han
zamīr-e-zindagī meñ karvaTeñ lene lagī ik mustaqil dhaḌkan
varaq tārīḳh ne tezī se ulTe
taġhayyur le ke sāz-o-barg-e-ta.amīr-e-jahāñ aaya
banī aadam kī duniyā ko sajāne
dil-e-suqrāt-o-īsā jhuum uTThe
jabīn-e-budh se niklī ik na.ī jot
añdhere hī se phūTā ik nayā saut
añdherā apnī hastī kho rahā hai
añdherā nuur meñ hal ho rahā hai
na.e dīpak kī jotī muskurā.ī
jahāñ ko kar diyā raushan
jahāñ ko mānavtā ko zindagī ko qalb-o-jāñ ko kar diyā raushan
siyah-ḳhāne meñ apnā jaal le aa.e na.e ḳhāke
na.ī duniyā banāne kī tamanna ke na.e ḳhāke
ki phir zālim añdherā jang-jū hāsid añdherā
liye tārīkiyoñ ke jaal aaya
nigār-e-amn ke dīpak pe TuuTā
kabhī kirnoñ kabhī dīpak ko luuTā
zamīñ se āsmāñ tak mauj-e-ḳhūñ hai
abhī tak aadmī said-e-zabūñ hai
añdherā hī azal hai aur añdherā hī abad kī jot hai shāyad
agar suqrāt kā dīpak hai raushan
sirāj-e-ibn-e-mariyam gar abad tak bujh nahīñ saktā
koī jhoñkā agar sham.a-e-shahīd-e-karbalā ko chhū nahīñ saktā
to ai tārīk duniyā to ai māyūs insāñ
bujhā saktī nahīñ hai koī āñdhī
yuñhī raushan rahegī sham.a-e-gāñdhī

adam ke KHwab se tariKH jagi
isi tarik chadar mein tamaddun muskuraya khilkhilaya jagmagaya
yahi tarik chadar KHawar-e-tahzib ka mashriq bani aaKHir
yahi tarik chadar oDh kar haiwaniyat ne rup dhaaran kar liye lakhon
isi tarik chadar mein simaT kar gum hui hasti
yahi mashriq yahi maghrib
andhera hi azal hai aur andhera hi abad ki jot hai shayad
andhere ki isi diwar-e-chin ko
kabhi 'suqraat' ki hikmat ne Dhaya
kabhi isa ke KHun-e-garm-o-taza ne kiya rangin
kabhi gautam ki mausiqi ke sayon ne ise ghera
kabhi zarb-e-mohammad ne kiya TukDe
husain ibn-e-ali ke KHun-e-nahaq ke thapeDon se kabhi kanpi kabhi larzi
faza mein ek chingari si taDpi
aur us ke baad us ke baad
chhai phir wahi manhus tariki wahi manhus tariki
andhera hi azal hai aur andhera hi abad ki jot hai shayad
andhere ki jabin-e-ahani se
ye kaisi jot phuTi muskurai jagmagai
ye kis ki muskurahaT se bani insaniyat gulshan
ye kis ne hind ki tarik duniya ko kiya raushan
dukhi duniya sitaron se bani dulhan
zamir-e-zindagi mein karwaTen lene lagi ek mustaqil dhaDkan
waraq tariKH ne tezi se ulTe
taghayyur le ke saz-o-barg-e-tamir-e-jahan aaya
bani aadam ki duniya ko sajaane
dil-e-suqraat-o-isa jhum uTThe
jabin-e-budh se nikli ek nai jot
andhere hi se phuTa ek naya saut
andhera apni hasti kho raha hai
andhera nur mein hal ho raha hai
nae dipak ki joti muskurai
jahan ko kar diya raushan
jahan ko manawta ko zindagi ko qalb-o-jaan ko kar diya raushan
siyah-KHane mein apna jal le aae nae KHake
nai duniya banane ki tamanna ke nae KHake
ki phir zalim andhera jang-ju hasid andhera
liye tarikiyon ke jal aaya
nigar-e-amn ke dipak pe TuTa
kabhi kirnon kabhi dipak ko luTa
zamin se aasman tak mauj-e-KHun hai
abhi tak aadmi said-e-zabun hai
andhera hi azal hai aur andhera hi abad ki jot hai shayad
agar suqraat ka dipak hai raushan
siraj-e-ibn-e-mariyam gar abad tak bujh nahin sakta
koi jhonka agar shama-e-shahid-e-karbala ko chhu nahin sakta
to ai tarik duniya to ai mayus insan
bujha sakti nahin hai koi aandhi
yunhi raushan rahegi shama-e-gandhi
