bañgāl kī gaatī nadiyā ke kināre
vo mujh par munkashif hoī
jahāñ sunahrī machhliyāñ
niile suroñ ko bilotī thiiñ
aur raushnī bāñTte peḌ kalām karte the
us kī sahar phūñktī aañkh ne
mujhe parinda banñe kā hukm diyā
maiñ us ke shāne kī harī shāḳh par baiTh kar
apnā lahn ījād karne lagā
us ke hare badan kā saaya
sivā neze pe thā
maiñ ne us ke badan ke saa.e se
narm bichhaunā taḳhlīq kiyā
aur duniyā ke chehre par thuuk diyā
ek tavīl niiñd ke ba.ad
maiñ ne barahmā kī tarah aañkh kholī
us kā ghanā saaya
mere vajūd par simaT rahā thā
us ke lazīz phaloñ meñ
mere liye kaḌvāhaT reñgne lagī
maiñ ne apnā reza reza vajūd sameT kar
gaThḌī meñ bāñdhā
qutub-numā ko
ḳhalīj bañgāl ke ḳhat par rakh kar
paañv se Thokar maarī
aur havā par paañv rakhtā huā
pāñchveñ samt meñ aage baḌh gayā
maiñ ne apne dil ko yaqīn dilāyā
ki us kī siskiyoñ kā muḳhātab
maiñ nahīñ thā

mere liye kaDwahaT rengne lagi
main ne apna reza reza wajud sameT kar
gaThDi mein bandha
qutub-numa ko
KHalij bangal ke KHat par rakh kar
panw se Thokar mari
aur hawa par panw rakhta hua
panchwen samt mein aage baDh gaya
main ne apne dil ko yaqin dilaya
ki us ki siskiyon ka muKHatab
main nahin tha
