jis ke hote hue hote the zamāne mere

    apnī apnī ġhalatiyoñ muāfī māñgte haiñ

    aur bachche apnī maaoñ se

    duudh baḳhshavāne dauḌe chale aate haiñ

    lekin vo phir bhī nahīñ gayā

    vo ajiib maḳhmase meñ paḌ gayā

    agar us ne duudh nahīñ piyā

    to Thiik hai

    lekin agar piyā hai

    to duudh josh kyoñ nahīñ mārtā

    use sab yaad aa rahā thā

    baap ne use pālā-posā

    us bachpan aur baap javānī

    saath saath guzre

    us nau-ḳhez umrī

    aur baap adheḌ umrī ek saath aa.e

    baap baḌe shauq se

    us shādī ke baare meñ soch rahā thā

    ki qatl ho kar rāhi-e-mulk-e-adam ho gayā

    aur vo mab.hūt akelā

    khaḌe khaḌā rah gayā

    us shādī kārobār naukrī

    hattā ki us ke bachchoñ se

    us aurat

    jise ab vo maañ samajhne lagā thā

    bas itnā ta'alluq rahā

    jitnā ki kisī bhī dūsre shaḳhs

    ho saktā hai

    yahāñ tak ki aaj us

    ye maañ bhī mar ga.ī

    janāze par jaanā bekār lagā

    aaj kyoñ kis ke liye

    kisī ne kaan meñ kahā

    marne vāloñ se kyā iḳhtilāf

    vo to un ke saath ḳhatm ho jaate haiñ

    haañ zindoñ se mumkin hai

    mayyat ke sirhāne baiThā

    to ruuh ke saare charāġh

    ek ek kar ke raushan ho ga.e

    vo tamām umr us aurat ke pyaar nahīñ

    us duāoñ ko bhī tarastā thā

    aur ab tarastā rahegā

    yak-dam us ke badan ne jhurjhurī

    aur nafrat ruuh

    jaise hamesha ke liye parvāz kar ga.ī

    log qabr ko miTTī de rahe the

    us ne bhī chhe dahā.īyoñ se

    miTTī meñ pakḌī

    apnī chāhat aglī poTlī

    āhistagī se luḌhkā

    lekin wo nahin gaya

    use malum hua ki us ki man

    bistar-e-marg par paDi hai

    lekin wo nahin gaya

    ye waqt aisa hota hai

    jab marne wala

    pichhe rah jaane walon se

    aur zinda rah jaane wale

    aage jaane walon se

    apni apni ghalatiyon ki muafi mangte hain

    aur bachche apni maon se

    dudh baKHshawane dauDe chale aate hain

    lekin wo phir bhi nahin gaya

    wo ajib maKHmase mein paD gaya

    agar us ne dudh nahin piya

    to Thik hai

    lekin agar piya hai

    to dudh josh kyon nahin marta

    use sab yaad aa raha tha

    bap hi ne use pala-posa

    us ka bachpan aur bap ki jawani

    sath sath guzre

    us ki nau-KHez umri

    aur bap ki adheD umri ek sath aae

    bap baDe shauq se

    us ki shadi ke bare mein soch raha tha

    ki qatl ho kar rahi-e-mulk-e-adam ho gaya

    aur wo mabhut akela

    khaDe ka khaDa rah gaya

    us ki shadi karobar naukri

    hatta ki us ke bachchon se

    us aurat ka

    jise ab wo man samajhne laga tha

    bas itna hi ta'alluq raha

    jitna ki kisi bhi dusre shaKHs

    ka ho sakta hai

    yahan tak ki aaj us ki

    ye man bhi mar gai

    janaze par jaana bekar laga

    aaj kyon kis ke liye

    kisi ne kan mein kaha

    marne walon se kya iKHtilaf

    wo to un ke sath hi KHatm ho jate hain

    han zindon se mumkin hai

    mayyat ke sirhane baiTha

    to ruh ke sare charagh

    ek ek kar ke raushan ho gae

    wo tamam umr us aurat ke pyar hi nahin

    us ki duaon ko bhi tarasta tha

    aur ab tarasta hi rahega

    yak-dam us ke badan ne jhurjhuri li

    aur nafrat ki ruh

    jaise hamesha ke liye parwaz kar gai

    log qabr ko miTTi de rahe the

    us ne bhi chhe dahaiyon se

    miTTi mein pakDi

    apni chahat ki agli poTli

    aahistagi se luDhka di
