Gopal Mittal is known as a poet, writer and editor of discriminating taste. He was born on 11 June, 1901 at Maler Kotla in the eastern part of Punjab. He got his B. A. degree from Sanatan Dharm College, Lahore. In 1948, he migrated to Delhi where he later started editing and publishing a literary journal called Tehreek which acquired a name for itself among the discriminating readers of Urdu literature.
Apart from writing poetry, Gopal Mittal also wrote critical pieces which projected ideological issues and also re-visited the older ones as well in order to establish their contemporary relevance.
In recognition of his services, Ghalib Akademy and Bihar Urdu Akademi awarded him with their prizes. He passed away on 15 March, 1993 at Delhi.
