Mohammad Miir, whose poetic surname was Soz, was born in Delhi. Syed Ziauddin was his father. Soz was a skillful archer and was adept in horsemanship and the use of various arms. He was also a noted calligrapher. Later he became a religious mendicant, entered in to the path of spiritual liberty and seeing the devastated condition of Delhi left for Lucknow. He himself introduced both these nom de plumes in one of his couplets. He has left an Urdu diwan comprising ghazals, masnavis, quatrains and mukhammas.
