Saqib Kanpuri was born Shah Abu Mohammad in 1904 at Kanpur in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He received his education on the pattern of Dars-e-Nizami and started composing poetry at an early age. A poet of classical tone and tenor, Saqib sought counselling on his poetry from Ahsanullah Khan Ahsan. Saqib also wrote in prose on social, cultural, and literary issues and published them in magazines and newspapers. He also published a journal called Nazara. Saqib Kanpuri died on 07 December, 1985 in Kanpur.
