Shauq Sandelawi was born Abdul Ali at Sandeela in 1894. He had a unique expertise in Islamic Traditions, Islamic Jurisprudence, logic, philosophy, history, and Greek medicine. He had a refined taste for poetry and started writing his poems in 1926 while seeking critical counseling from the prominent poets of his time. He published his collection Islaah-e-Sukhan in 1926 where he put the main text along with commentary on them by critics. This was a unique publication of its own kind in those days and attracted remarkable responses from a cross section of readers. Some of the responses were negative as well.
