Helal Fareed is an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Urdu Poet based in London. He was born in Lucknow and brought up in Aligarh. After obtaining an MS in Orthopaedic Surgery from JN Medical College Aligarh he moved to United Kingdom for further training. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and works as an Orthopaedic Surgeon at the West Middlesex University Hospital in London. Hilal has been writing poetry in Urdu for over thirty years. Though he experiments in various poetic forms but his main genre is Ghazal. His collection of Poems ‘jab Diyon Ke sar Uthe’ has been well-received both by Urdu and Hindi Poetry lovers. He also runs a charity called Roshni for Harmony and a 'not-for-profit' organisation called Sir Syed Foundation London.
