P آستانه āstāna, astāna, = P آستان āstān, [ā+Pehl. stān, Zend stāna, S. स्थान] s.m. Threshold; door, entrance; entrance to a shrine; abode of a faqīr or holy man:—āstān-bos, s.m. Lit. 'Kissing of the threshold'; one who pays a visit to a superior:—āstān- (āstāna-) bosī, s.f. Kissing the threshold; paying respects:—āstāna-bosī karnā, To pay (one's) respects; to make obeisance.
