Profile of Arshad Masood Hashmi
Arshad Masood Hashmi started his literary carrier as a translator and critic of Modern Chinese poetry and fiction when he started being published in the magazines like Shabkhoon. ‘Jadeed Cheenee Shaeri’, ‘Lu Hsun kay Shahkar Afsanay’, ‘Ber Bahutiyan’, and ‘Naghma-e Shaman’ are the books that contain translations of Chinese Classics with critical introductions. Recently he has translated a Chinese classic, the Tao Te Ching as ‘Fazail-e Tark-e Amal’ into Urdu. He has authored books on lexicography, act of literary creation as well. With the passage of time, this inclination resulted in his interest in Comparative Literature and Criticism which resulted in the publication of ‘Premchand aur Lu Hsun’, and ‘Cheenee Adab par Hindustani Adab kay Asarat’. His book ‘Shakeerur Rahman ki Ghalib-shanasi’ is different in nature as it discusse aesthetical and archetypal aspects of Ghalib’s poetry. He has edited works of his father Prof. Qamar Azam Hashmi too. Professor in Urdu at Jai Prakash University, Chapra (Bihar) he writes in English as well. He edits ‘Urdu Studies’.
