On day in Lucknow, two men were arguing whether Mir was a better poet or Sauda, the argument elongated and they reached out to Khwaja Basit, who was the Ustad of both Mir and Sauda. He said that both of them are perfect, but the difference is that Mir poetry is "aah" and Sauda's poetry is "waah". Substantiating his claim he read this couplet of Mir, 'sirhaane 'miir' ke aahista bolo, abhii Tuk rote rote so gayaa hai' and this couplet of Sauda, ''saudaa' kii jo baalii.n pe gayaa shor-e-qayaamat, KHuddaam-e-adab bole abhii aa.nkh lagii hai'. One of the gentlemen, who was a zealot of Sauda, went to Sauda and narrated the incident to which Sauda smiled and said, 'Mir's couplet is indeed an 'Aah' (sigh), but its no less than a 'davaa' (medicine).
