Owais Ahmad Dauraan was one of the prominent poets of the Progressive writers Movement. He continued his link with the Association till the end of his career and believed that this ideology could contribute towards the creation of a just social order. This also brought him close to leftist ideology both theoretically and practically. This landed him in jail on several occasions. During the Emergency period, he suffered more than many others. He also lost his son when he was in jail once.
Dauraan was born on 14 February, 1938. He had double degrees of M. A. in Urdu and Persian. He worked as a faculty member at Kunwar Singh College, Darbhanga and also served as the Head of the Department of Urdu. His poetry collections include Lamhon ki Aawaaz, Abaabeel, and Mah-o-Anjum. He also published his critical work called Taqeed ki Manzil and his autobiography Meri Kahaani.
