Dost Muhammad Nabi Khan was born in Delhi in November 1953. He did his MA in English and Urdu from the Historic Anglo-Arabic School, Delhi College and Zakir Hussain College. Later, he obtained an M.Phil. in Urdu from Delhi University and also did a Diploma in Mass Media, Urdu from Jawaharlal Nehru University. After serving in various capacities in the Ministry of Railways, Government of Delhi, and the Prime Minister's Office and Parliament, he retired from the post of Joint Director, Rajya Sabha. Later he served as a consultant for one year in the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India. During the same time, he was also a member of the Governing Council of the Delhi Urdu Academy from 2001 to 2003. He was a member of the editorial board of the Oxford English-English-Urdu Dictionary and Kaleem-ud-Din Ahmed's Dictionary published by the National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language and also contributed in writing to the Encyclopedia of Indian Literature published by Sahitya Academy. He has also been associated with All India Radio, Delhi Door Darshan, UPSC and many other organizations in various capacities. He also co-edited a book on contemporary Pakistani poetry in Devanagari, published by the International Urdu Trust and a book on Dagh's poetry published by Rajpal & Sons. A book on the riddles of Amir Khosrow in Devanagari is also being compiled by him. Further, he also recites his poetry in Mushairas from time to time. He is also actively involved in the preserve of education as a Life Member of Delhi Education Society and Founding Member and Joint Secretary of Anglo-Arabic Schools and Delhi College Old Boys Association.
