    chāñdnī us paikar-e-ḳhākī ko gahnā.ī milī

    bujh gayā phir shaam ke sahrā meñ sūraj ḳhayāl

    phir mah-o-anjum ko uThne rusvā.ī milī

    phir koī misl-e-sabā aayā hai sahn-e-ḳhvāb meñ

    phir mire har zaḳhm ko yādoñ purvā.ī milī

    ik purāne naqsh ke mānind sūraj bujh gayā

    shab ke shāne par sitāroñ ghaTā chhā.ī milī

    ḳhūb-sūrat aañkh ko ik jhiil samjhā thā magar

    tairne utrā to sāgar gahrā.ī milī

    phir fazā meñ rach ga.ī hai zaḳhm-e-tāza mahak

    phir mirī palkoñ ko 'shāhīñ-badr' goyā.ī milī

    chandni us paikar-e-KHaki ko gahnai mili

    bujh gaya phir sham ke sahra mein suraj ka KHayal

    phir mah-o-anjum ko ji uThne ki ruswai mili

    phir koi misl-e-saba aaya hai sahn-e-KHwab mein

    phir mere har zaKHm ko yaadon ki purwai mili

    ek purane naqsh ke manind suraj bujh gaya

    shab ke shane par sitaron ki ghaTa chhai mili

    KHub-surat aankh ko ek jhil samjha tha magar

    tairne utra to sagar ki si gahrai mili

    phir faza mein rach gai hai zaKHm-e-taza ki mahak

    phir meri palkon ko 'shahin-badr' goyai mili
