jalte hue kuchh soch ke ik pal ko rukā thā

aise bhī vo yādoñ ko mirī chhoḌ rahā thā

āñkhoñ meñ thakan gard-e-mah-o-sāl jabīñ par

ik shaḳhs kahīñ duur dhuñdlakoñ meñ milā thā

ab kyuuñ hai udāsī samāñ hadd-e-nazar tak

kal raat ḳhayāloñ meñ koī jaag rahā thā

kyuuñ maslahatan log use bhuul ga.e haiñ

insān azmat ko salīboñ meñ paḌhā thā

tanhā.ī ke darvāze se yādoñ samundar

lagtā hai ki jazbāt meñ sar maar rahā thā

rah rah ke vo chehra mujhe yaad aatā hai 'sāqib'

dekhā nahīñ bhar ke use kaun thā kyā thā

jalte hue kuchh soch ke ek pal ko ruka tha

aise bhi wo yaadon ko meri chhoD raha tha

aankhon mein thakan gard-e-mah-o-sal jabin par

ek shaKHs kahin dur dhundlakon mein mila tha

ab kyun hai udasi ka saman hadd-e-nazar tak

kal raat KHayalon mein koi jag raha tha

kyun maslahatan log use bhul gae hain

insan ki azmat ko salibon mein paDha tha

tanhai ke darwaze se yaadon ka samundar

lagta hai ki jazbaat mein sar mar raha tha

rah rah ke wo chehra mujhe yaad aata hai 'saqib'

dekha nahin ji bhar ke use kaun tha kya tha
