shaam thī ham the aur samundar thā
kis qadar dil-fareb manzar thā
ik taraf thī ḳhushī ujāloñ kī
ik taraf shaam hone kā Dar thā
the pareshān tiir nazroñ ke
jab talak dil mirā hadaf par thā
vo thā kamsin ye sach sahī lekin
hasratoñ meñ mire barābar thā
dil to thā mutma.in rifāqat meñ
ḳhauf sā dhaḌkanoñ ke andar thā
apne hāthoñ use gañvāyā hai
jis meñ pinhāñ mirā muqaddar thā
us kī rañgīn qurbatoñ ke sabab
raat jannat-numā mirā ghar thā
shahr-e-jāñ kī udaas galiyoñ meñ
mushta.il ḳhvāhishoñ kā lashkar thā
shor kamre meñ thā qayāmat kā
chup kā aalam 'ḳhayāl' bāhar thā

KHauf sa dhaDkanon ke andar tha
apne hathon use ganwaya hai
jis mein pinhan mera muqaddar tha
us ki rangin qurbaton ke sabab
raat jannat-numa mera ghar tha
shahr-e-jaan ki udas galiyon mein
mushtail KHwahishon ka lashkar tha
shor kamre mein tha qayamat ka
chup ka aalam 'KHayal' bahar tha
