Akhtar Ali Khan ‘Akhtar’, was born on October 16, 1940, in Shahjahanpur (India). From 1961 to 2000, he worked at OCF (Ordnance Clothing Factory) Shahjahanpur and successfully served as the editor for the factory's literary magazine “Pratibha” (published in Urdu and Hindi) for five years. Akhtar Shahjahanpuri has been a prominent poet, regularly published in Indian and international magazines since 1960. He has published four Gazal collections so far: “Dastak”, “Saiban”, “Barg-e-Nau”, and “Takmeel”. His latest collection, “Tashkeel”, is currently under publication.
In prose, his works include “Naqd-o-Nazar” and “Tafheem” (critical essays), as well as “Talash-o-Tameer” (a collection of writings by literary figures on Akhtar Shahjahanpuri’s poetry and personality), “Tarseel”, “Bazm-e-Chiraghan”, and “Meherban Kaise Kaise” (letters from famous personalities to Akhtar Shahjahanpuri). He has received awards for his poetry and prose collections from the Uttar Pradesh Urdu Academy and Bihar Urdu Academy. Akhtar Shahjahanpuri has also been honored with prestigious literary awards, including the Kuwait Bazm-e-Sukhan Kuwait Award, Saudi Arabia Literary Award, Firaq Gorakhpuri Award, Akhtar Aurenvi Award, Disha Literary Award, and the Janpad Ratna Shahjahanpur Award.
