Amjad Hyderabadi was born Amjad Hussain in March 1878. His father, Sufi Syed Rahim Ali, was a man of deep religious conviction. He died while Amjad was still a young boy. After acquiring his early education in a maktab, he continued his studies according to the Nizamia curriculum at Madarsa Nizamia in Hyderabad where he acquired his expertise in Arabic and Persian languages. In order to earn his livelihood, he first worked as a teacher at Darul Uloom School. Later, he worked in the accounts and audit department of Hyderabad state. His mother, wife, and children died when the Musi river got flooded beyond control and claimed lives. This gave a terrible shock to him.
