Dard has been one of the favorite choices of poets when it comes to selecting a pen name. Murtaza Ali Khan too adopted it. He was born on 12 June 1919 in Shahjahanpur. He passed tenth in 1936 from Allahabad University and passed the exam of Adeeb from the same institution. He started poetry at a very young age and became the disciple of Molana Siddique Hasan Asad Shahjahanpuri. He joined the Civil Services and in 1945, he joined the army. He moved to Pakistan as an army person. In 1971, he retired from army and became a resident of Hyderabad. After that he kept working as an assistant for Karachi Transport Corporation. He died on 28 September 1990 in Hyderabad. Chiragh-E-Rehguzar, Dard Ki Lehar, Aayat-E-Dird, Sanaa-E-Khwaja-E-Hasnain, and Hamd are the collections of his poetry.
