Jam Niwai Badayuni was born Zafar Yaab Hussain on 16 October, 1903 at Badayun. He chose Niwai as a part of his name due to his reverence for his grandfather Nawab Zahoorullah Khan Niwa. Niwa is the same person who has been mentioned in Aab-e-Hayat and Gulshan-e-Bekhaar for his literary confrontations with poet Jura’at.
Jam Niwai received his early education at home. He earned his degree in law and practiced as an advocate at Badayun. In 1953, he migrated to Pakistan and in 1981 he passed away at Islamabad. His poetical works were published in Mataa-e-Rafta.
