Akbarabadi was the charming pen name of Ali Sajjad, who was born in Ghaziabad, in 1916. He changed his name to Mehr Akbarabdi simply because his ancestors belonged to Agra. His passion for poetry was in his genes. He did his graduation in 1935 but due to failing times, he had to discontinue his education. He passed the exams of B.T.C with distinction from Aligarh in 1943 and joined teaching for it was a Hobson’s choice. He did his M.A. in Urdu from Agra University as a private student and stood first in the whole university. He moved to Pakistan in 1949 and was appointed as lecturer at the Government College of Dera Ghazi Khan. After that he came to Islamabad and joined the same profession. He retired as the Principal of Federal Government College Islamabad. His writings had continuously been appearing in different magazines but he could not manage any book to his credit. He died on 28 February 1989 in Islamabad.
