Pen Name : 'ramz'
Real Name : Raza Ali Khan
Born :Patna, Bihar
Died : 15 Jan 1997
Raza Ali Khan, born in Patna City in 1916, chose to write under the pen name of Ramz Azimabadi. He did not receive any formal education except for the traditional education he received in early childhood. He had to share the financial responsibilities of his family rather too early in his life and lead a life of great tests and tribulations. Negotiating with life at a very high cost, he worked as a labour, pulled rickshaw, and did humble jobs for sustenance. Later, he worked on a very ordinary position in the Public Works Department (PWD).
Ramz is considered to be one of the most respectable poets of Azimabad (Patna). He started writing poetry around 1949. His first collections Naghma-i-Sung was published in 1988 and the second one called Shaakh-e-Zaitoon, in 1998. Apart from his ghazals, his nazmz are also of considerable merit. His poetry is a keen reflection of the pain and pathos of life as seen and experienced by him. His poetry may also be read as a record of human exploitation and failed resistance. He is also known as a labour poet. Ramz died on 15 January 1997.
