Saqi Amrohvi was born in 1925 in the city of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Syed Ali Qasim, and grandfather, Syed Ali Aslam, were landlords. Saqi’s parents wished for their son to achieve great success through education. When he reached the age of schooling, he was admitted to a maktab (traditional school). Saqi Amrohvi was the eldest and most beloved of his father's children. His parents’ affection made him carefree and headstrong. Eventually, this led to him abandoning his studies in favor of wrestling in akharas (wrestling pits) and attending poetry gatherings (mushairas).
Over time, Saqi developed a deep inclination towards poetry. Amroha, being a hub of literary and poetic tradition, naturally fostered a love for verse. After the Partition of India, Saqi Amrohvi migrated to Pakistan and settled in Karachi. In Karachi, he struggled to find a means of livelihood. Due to a lack of formal education, he could not secure a stable job, though he did work for some time in the municipal corporation.
Saqi Amrohvi had started writing poetry in his childhood but sought formal guidance in Pakistan under the mentorship of the Master Poet Mir Jawad Ali, whom he regarded as his teacher. Saqi Amrohvi passed away on December 12, 2005, in Karachi.
