hamare aage tera jab kisu ne nam liya
Interesting Fact
It is written in the chapter on Mir in Tazkira Khush Maraka-e-Zeba (by Saadat Khan Nasir Lucknow) that, in his young age, as long as Mir remained in the company of Khan Arzoo, he sometimes recited two or four poems for his perusal. He liked it and emphasized poetry and speech as much as possible. One day Khan Arzoo said, 'today Mirza Rafi Sauda came and he mellifluously recited a couplet (Chaman mein subh jo us Jang-ju kaa naam liya... Sabaa ne tegh ka aab-e-ravaa.n se kaam liya). Mir, having heard the couplet, extemporaneously recited a couplet, 'hamare aage tira jab kisu ne naam liya... Dil-e-sitam-zada ko apne thaam thaam liya' (In some volumes the word apne is published as hum ne). Khan Arzoo jumped in ecstacy and said may God protect him from the evil eye.
hamāre aage tirā jab kisū ne naam liyā
dil-e-sitam-zada ko ham ne thaam thaam liyā
hamare aage tera jab kisu ne nam liya
dil-e-sitam-zada ko hum ne tham tham liya
