Gorakhpur became famous because of Firaq Gorakhpuri. However, there were some other poets of that land who stayed away from fame. Asghar Gorakhpuri was one of them. His original name was Syed Asghar Hasan and he used his first name as his pen name. He was born on 14 February 1927 in Gorakhpur, UP. Following partition, he migrated to West Pakistan. He had a deep knowledge of Hebrew and Sanskrit. He was the resident of Chitgaam but he migrated to Karachi when West Pakistan became Bangladesh. He would mostly compose ghazals. He died due to a heart problem on 30 Oct 1981.
