Profile of Farooque Muztar

Pen Name : 'Muztar'

Real Name : Muhammad Farooq

Born : 14 Apr 1954 | Thanamandi, Jammu and Kashmir

Muhammad Farooq Muztar belongs to the Thanamandi Tehsil of Rajouri. His literary engagement spans only ten years. During this period, he also edited a high-quality Urdu magazine "Dhanak". Additionally, in the Pir Panjal region, Muhammad Ayub Shabnam (author of Adabiyat Poonch), who hails from Surankote, used to publish a literary and political magazine named "Sitaron Se Aage". However, Muztar Sahib's 'Dhanak' was a purely high-standard literary magazine.

Farooq Muztar's poetry made a remarkable debut. He is regarded as the first modern poet of the Pir Panjal region. His poetry is not associated with any particular movement, but he was deeply influenced by Zafar Iqbal and Bani. At times, his poetic expressions also resemble those of Shakeb Jalali. In our state (Jammu and Kashmir), his contemporaries include Prithpal Singh Betab, Farooq Nazki, and Rafiq Raaz, who are esteemed poets.

In modern Urdu poetry, his predecessors and contemporaries include Zafar Iqbal, Adil Mansoori, Bani, Zaib Ghouri, Muhammad Alvi, and Kumar Pashi, who are highly respected figures. Muztar's poetry features various types of imagery—visual, auditory, etc.. Some of his verses create an illusion where one can see colors and perceive fragrances in the air. The experience of observing and feeling these hazy images provides a sense of delight and ecstasy to discerning readers.
