Hijab Abbasi is a poet, novelist and playwright. She belongs to a scholarly and literary family of Amroha, Muradabad District, India. Her ather Shoaib Hazeen was a well-known poet, writer and broadcaster, while his uncle Mahmood Ahmad Abbasi was a well-known historian. Her initial education took place in Karachi and then from Quetta till matriculation. There, at the age of eight or nine, she acted in his first radio play. When her father was transferred to Karachi, he wrote about 50 to 60 stories for Karachi Radio under the title "Aao Bachhon Kahani Suno". She got married at an early age and moved to Quetta again. She remained associated with radio and TV there but also continued her education. Having completed her BA and MA, she worked as the PA of a woman minister and also worked in other government departments. She came to Karachi after the death of her husband. Three collections of Hijab’s poems have been published- “Tajdiid-e-Hijr”, “Sabat-e-Hijr”, and “Aks-e-Jalal-o-Jamal”. She has also written three TV dramas: "Baat Hai Raswai Ki", for the channel “Hum”, “Andhere Ka Tiir”, for PTV, and "Sarab" from TV One. In 2017, she began issuing a literary magazine named "Adab-e-Alia" in which the writings of well-known and reputable writers of Pakistan and foreign countries have been published and are gaining much popularity.
